TOLEDO, Ohio — Kent State was unable to sustain an efficient offensive performance in the first quarter and dropped the final game of the regular season to Mid-American Conference champion Toledo, 83-61, on Saturday afternoon.
The Golden Flashes (18-10, 13-5 MAC) received a strong performance from graduate student Mikala Morris, who matched her season high with 18 points on 7-of-11 shooting. Sophomore Dionna Gray and redshirt senior Katie Shumate also scored in double-figures with 11 and 10 points, respectively.
Kent State made seven of eight shots during a stretch late in the first quarter to build an eight-point lead before holding a 23-16 advantage at the end of the period.
Despite a tough shooting second quarter, the Flashes only trailed by one at halftime, 33-32.
Three of Kent State's first four shots in the third period found the bottom of the net, but the final seven points were scored at the free throw line and the deficit was 11 entering the fourth.
Toledo made six of its first seven shots in the final period to extend its lead.
The Flashes will head to Cleveland for the MAC Women's Basketball Tournament and battle Northern Illinois in a quarterfinal matchup on Wednesday, March 13.
