KENT, Ohio – The Kent State softball team lost the series finale against Western Michigan, 8-2, at Devine Diamond on Sunday.

Freshman Megan Nuechterlein held the Broncos to one hit over the first three innings as it remained scoreless entering the top of the fourth before the guest scored first on a bunt single, error and sac fly.

The Golden Flashes (19-17, 5-9 MAC) answered in the bottom half of the inning, as sophomore Bri Despines beat out an infield single and then scored on a two-out triple by graduate student Julia Mazanec.

Western Michigan went back ahead 3-1 in the top of the fifth on a two-run homer.

Senior Emily Lippe quickly cut the deficit in half, sending a moon shot inside of the left field foul pole to lead off the bottom of the fifth.

The Broncos plated five in the top of the sixth on four hits, one walk, one hit batter and one error to make it 8-2.

Kent State was unable to get a batter to reach base in the sixth and seventh innings.

Nuechterlein (12-8) tossed 6.1 innings and had two strikeouts while allowing four earned runs.

The Flashes will be back in action on Tuesday, April 16 with a doubleheader at Buffalo.
