
Track and Field Earns Four Athlete of the Week Honors

CLEVELAND – Jaheim Jones, Kristian Kneffler, and Gabby Bailey were named Mid-American Conference Track and Field Athletes of the Week for their performances at the Duke Invitational, the conference office announced today. Jones and Kneffler swept the men's awards and Bailey claimed Women's Field Athlete of the Week. Quintin Cooks was named men's scholar-athlete of the week
Jones was named Track Athlete of the Week for his performances in the 4x100-meter relay and the 200-meter dash. He anchored the 4x1 team to a school and meet record performance of 39.69 seconds. He was joined by Logan Doyle, Sean Callahan Jr., and Dejon Manning on the relay. Jones set a second meet record in the 200-meter dash with a time of 20.57 seconds, which is fifth best in program history. Both of those times rank first in the MAC.
Kneffler earned Field Athlete of the Week for his performance in the pole vault. He set a seasons-best of 17' 2.75" in route to a fourth-place finish and was second among collegians. Kneffler is currently ranked second in the MAC.
Bailey was named Field Athlete of the Week after her second and third-place finishes in the discus and shot put. Bailey had a best throw of 170' 7" in the discus and 50' 3.5" in the shot put. Bailey has the top mark in the MAC in the discus and is third in the shot put.
Cooks earned Scholar-Athlete of the Week honors from the conference. To be named Scholar-Athlete of the Week an athlete must have a 3.0 GPA or better and perform well that week. Cooks is a graduate student studying Early Childhood Education. He is equally impressive on the track as this past weekend he posted the program's fastest 800-meter time since 2005. His performance of 1:49.04 set a new personal best and ranks him third in program history. He also anchored the 4x400-meter relay team to the second-fastest time in the conference of 3:14.32.
The Flashes return to action this weekend at the Jim Green Invitational hosted by the University of Kentucky in Lexington, Ky.
