
Flashes Set for Pair of Mid-Week Contests

KENT- The Golden Flashes start a five-game week with a pair of mid-week games, heading to Youngstown to face the Penguins and hosting the Clarion Golden Eagles on Wednesday night.
Kent State is coming off a 3-1 week that saw the Flashes earn the 2,000th win in program history in dramatic fashion. The Flashes erased a three-run deficit in the ninth on Sunday to win 9-8 in extra innings over Northern Illinois. Tim Orr hit a two-out grand slam in the ninth with the Flashes winning the game 9-8 in 10 innings.
The Flashes defeated the Penguins 27-0 earlier this season at Schoonover Stadium and will make their first trip to Youngstown since the 2019 season and their first victory in Y-Town since the 2018 campaign. The Penguins are 7-31 on the season and coming off a road series victory over Purdue-Fort Wayne. Trey Law leads the team with a .351 average while Brett Stanley leads the squad with 23 runs batted in. Colin Casteel is the YSU projected starter, the Freshman is 0-2 with a 8.49 ERA.
Clarion comes into the week at 11-28 overall with a Tuesday night game against PSU-DuBois. Scott McManamon leads the team with a .341 average and has 16 stolen bases. It'll be the first meeting between the schools.
Tuesday's game will have a noon start in Youngstown with a kid's day scheduled for the matinee. Wednesday's game will start at 6 p.m. It will be Wastin' Away Again in Schoonaritaville, with a Jimmy Buffet/beach theme in store for fans.
The Youngstown State game will have a digital radio feed and Wednesday's game will have a free video stream with Dan Griffin and Chase Cotner on the call for both games. Kent State stays at home this weekend, welcoming in first-place Bowling Green for a big conference series. First pitch on Friday night is set for 6 p.m.
