
Softball Drops Final Road Doubleheader to First-Place RedHawks

OXFORD, Ohio – Host Miami belted seven home runs as Kent State dropped the final two road games of the regular season on Saturday by scores of 13-1 and 9-1.
The Golden Flashes (24-21, 9-13 MAC) were led at the plate by graduate student Alexandria Whitmore, who recorded a hit and a RBI in each game.
Game 1: Miami 11, Kent State 1 (5 innings)
Bri Despines ripped the first pitch of the day down the right field line for a double. After moving to third on a sac bunt, Despines put the Flashes ahead 1-0 on a single by Alexandria Whitmore.
Miami scored eight in the bottom of the first and four more in the second but was held to just one over the third and fourth.
Game 2: Miami 9, Kent State 1
After allowing seven runs in the bottom of the first inning, Megan Nuechterlein (17-10) limited the RedHawks to two runs on two hits over the next three. Nuechterlein totaled three strikeouts in four innings.
Kent State scored its run in the top of the third. Delaney Robeson started the frame with a single and an error then placed two in scoring position. Alexandria Whitmore brought Robeson home with a groundout to the right side.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State will close the regular season with five home games at Devine Diamond next week. The Golden Flashes will host Central Michigan in a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 30 and then battle rival Akron in a three-game series on May 4-5.
