Eagles Outlast Flashes in Extras

KENT- The Golden Flashes erased an early eight-run Eastern Michigan lead, but the Eagles outlasted the Flashes 13-12 in 11 innings on a Saturday in the park at Schoonover Stadium.
The Eagles plated three in the first and five in the second to grab a big lead early, but the Flashes continued to chip away at the deficit. Kent State answered with five of their own in the bottom of the second as the middle of the order each delivered runs home. Tim Orr, Kyle Jackson and Josh Johnson each had two hits and combined for 10 runs batted in, led by Johnson's five.
Kent State would get within two in the third with Dom Kibler blasting a solo homer to right. But similar to yesterday's game, the Eagles rallied back, scoring the next four runs to build a six-run lead entering the eighth. Ripken Reese led off the eighth with a solo homer and four batters later, Johnson parked a three-run shot to make it a 12-10 game. Reese then started a ninth inning rally reaching on a dropped third strike and errant throw. Orr and Johnson brought home the two runs needed to send the game to extras tied at 12.
The Flashes would get the winning run to scoring position in the 10th, but no further. In the 11th a throwing error put the lead-off runner in scoring position and the Eagles pushed across the go-ahead run two batters later. In the bottom of the 11th, Tim Orr worked a walk, but pinch runner Lance MacDonald was cut down stealing, thwarting the comeback as the Eagles evened the series at a game each.
The two teams will meet for the rubber match on Sunday afternoon, first pitch is set for 1 p.m.
