KENT- The Kent State Athletic Department placed fourth nationally in the Excellence in Management Cup (EM Cup) top-25 for the 2022-23 Division-I FBS Athletic Season.
The EM Cup is conducted through a research study by the Texas A&M College Sports Lab. The award and study bring awareness to the NCAA athletic departments that maximize fiscal resources through championships and victories. The study showcases the department that are the most efficient with their resources. The award is calculated using the number of championships won, the number of sports offered and a department's operating expenses.
This is the 10th EM cup awarded and the first since 2017-18, Kent State has won the EM Cup three times: 2009-10, 2011-12 and 2014-15.
"This accomplishment is a testament to the resourcefulness of our coaches and the department as a whole," Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Randale L. Richmond said. "We have made a habit of punching above our weight class and maximize our resources to give our student-athletes a true Division-I experience as we graduate student-athletes, boldly prepared for life after sports and win championships."
In the 2022-23 athletic year, the Flashes won five league titles as baseball, field hockey, gymnastics, lacrosse, men's basketball, and women's golf all took home MAC titles. Regular season and tournament titles are treated equally. While not factored into the rankings, women's basketball defeated Oklahoma State on the road and earned a bid into the WNIT.
