KENT- The Kent State Athletic Department ran its streak to 26 consecutive semesters (13 years) with a cumulative department grade-point average over 3.0.
The Flashes also ran the department record to 25 consecutive semesters with an average semester GPA over 3.0, raising the bar to 3.36, the highest spring semester GPA in department history and second-best overall. The department's cumulative GPA of 3.368 is the highest in department history.
Eight programs set program records with the highest term or cumulative GPA in their respective histories. Leading the way was the Kent State football team, who set the program record in both semester and cumulative GPAs. It marks the third-straight semester that the football team has raised their standard in the classroom.
"Our student-athletes continue to redefine the standard for excellence in the classroom," Vice President and Director of Intercollegiate Athletics Randale L. Richmond said. "Achievements like these don't happen without the exceptional efforts of our academic staff, the leadership of our coaches, the support of our entire staff and of course the effort and dedication of our student-athletes. I could not be prouder of the work across the board and this is yet another milestone in our mission to graduate student-athletes, boldly prepared for life after sport and winning championships."
Sixty student-athletes (13%) recorded a perfect 4.0 this semester. Nearly 60 percent of student-athletes had a GPA of 3.4 or better and 182 student-athletes earned Dean's List honors. Seventy-six percent of student-athletes earned a 3.0 or higher, well above the University's mark of 56 percent.
