PARIS — Corey Conners tied for ninth in men's golf, highlighting a trio of Kent State Athletics alumni who competed at the Paris 2024 Summer Olympics over the past two weeks.
Representing Canada for the second straight Olympic Games, Conners shot 272 over the four-round competition. He closed the event with a 66 in the final round, his best of the tournament, to jump eight spots on the leaderboard and post the best individual Olympics finish by a Golden Flash since Thomas Jefferson captured bronze in the 200-meter dash in 1984.
For the second straight Olympics, Jamaican Danniel Thomas-Dodd just missed the finals in the women's shot put with a 13th place finish. The three-time Olympian's best throw of 18.12m (59'-5.50") was just 0.04m from advancing past the qualification round.
Chris Ortiz played a team-high 74 minutes for Puerto Rico and recorded averages of 8.0 points per game and 3.3 rebounds per game. Ortiz scored a game-high 19 points against silver medalist Serbia.
Kent State has been represented at 11 consecutive Summer Olympics dating back to 1984. Eleven different Kent State athletes have represented six countries (Brazil, Canada, Great Britain, Jamaica, Puerto Rico, USA) and competed in four sports (athletics, basketball, golf, softball) during this time.
