Arthur Scores Brace as Flashes Fall to Duquesne

Pittsburgh Pa.- The Kent State soccer team fell to Duquesne 4-2 Sunday afternoon in Pittsburgh.

The Dukes were able to break the scoreless draw after both sides traded shots from outside the box early on, finding the first goal in the 40^th minute. Duquesne held a 1-0 advantage going into the halftime break.

Duquesne doubled their lead in the 53^rd minute on a long through ball up to Margey Brown. The Flashes answered back just four minutes later off the foot of Alisa Arthur. The midfielder took a freekick just outside the 18-yard box and placed the ball just out of the goalie's reach. The Dukes didn't take long to respond scoring their third goal of the day less than a minute later.

Arthur netted her second goal of the day in a similar style to her first one, the senior took a freekick from outside the box and powers the ball over the goalie's head to make the score 3-2. The Dukes scored their fourth goal of the day in the 79^th minute.

In the box score, The Flashes trailed in shots (8-20), shots on goal (7-10), and corner kick opportunities (3-4). Arthur led Kent State with four shots on goal, while five Flashes played all 90 minutes- Heidi Marshall, Ava Todd, Thea Helen Oberhoff, Kelsey Salopek, and Ali Weibel. Marshall tallied 6 saves on the afternoon for the Flashes.

Kent State now sits at 3-1-1 on the season with only one game remaining before Mid-American Conference plays gets underway later this month.

Kent State will wrap up the non-conference portion of their schedule Friday, Sept 13 at the University of Kentucky. Kickoff for that game is slated for 7:30 p.m.
