Flashes Open Season With Tri-Meet Victory

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State gymnastics team opened its 2025 campaign on Friday at the MAC Center with a tri-meet victory over Fisk and Wilberforce. The Flashes opened the season with an all-around team score of 193.775 to best scores of 189.075 by Fisk and 141.375 by Wilberforce.
ROTATION 1 - VAULT
Kent State began the evening on vault, combining for a 48.450 team total. Leading the Flashes was Nene Alvine, who posted a 9.825 in her first official collegiate vault attempt. Also making the first vault attempt of her collegiate career, Avery Compson recorded the second-highest score for Kent State with a 9.700.
ROTATION 2 - BARS
The Flashes posted a 47.775 on the bars as the competition continued. Dani Fuertez, recently named a MAC gymnast to watch this season, led the Flashes with a 9.800 in the event, matching the sophomore's career-best score on bars. Senior captain Brynne Tsipis posted the second-highest score on bars for Kent State with a 9.725.
ROTATION 3 - BEAM
The joint-best performance of the night for the Flashes came on beam, where the team earned a 48.775. Leading the Flashes in the event was Alyssa Guns, whose score of 9.850 was the joint-highest among all events for Kent State. After only competing on the beam in her freshman season, Nene Alvine posted a 9.800 to open the season in the event, second-best among the Flashes.
ROTATION 4 - FLOOR
Kent State continued a strong finish on the floor, where they matched their efforts on the beam with a 48.775. Dani Fuertez impressed most for the Flashes in the event, recording a joint meet-high score of 9.850. Guns also solidified a strong finish to the opening night of her senior year, notching a 9.825 in the final event of the night to help the Flashes prevail in the tri-meet.
