
Siyoum’s PR Highlights Opening Day at Penn State National Open

STATE COLLEGE, Pa. – Senior Zamen Siyoum clocked the sixth fastest men's 60-meter hurdles time in Kent State track and field history during the opening day of competition of the Penn State National Open.
Siyoum placed third in the event with a personal-best of 7.98 seconds, beating his previous PR set just a couple of hours earlier during the prelims.
Sophomore Amryne Chilton was also a standout on the track for the Golden Flashes, who finished fifth in the women's 60-meter dash with a time of 7.52 seconds that is just .06 seconds off the school record.
Junior Amare Hall recorded Kent State's best finish on Friday, taking second in the men's long jump with a mark of 23'-11.5". Senior Alexandre Malanda set a PR in the event and finished fourth with a mark of 23'-5.25".
A pair of Flashes posted personal-bests and top-10 finishes in the men's weight throw. Redshirt junior Donovan Crawford took fourth with a mark of 64'-0.25" and freshman Jeremiah Newsome threw 58'-7.50" for ninth.
Sophomore Kyla Taress cleared 11'-11.75" for sixth in the women's pole vault.
Junior Matilde Carboncini and sophomore Shelby Grover tied for eighth in the women's long jump to round out the top-10 finishers. Carboncini and Grover both recorded jumps of 18'-8.50".
Competition on Saturday starts on the track with the unseeded women's 600-meter run. Field events will begin at 11 a.m. with the women's high jump, men's high jump and men's shot put.
