Kent State Continues Early MAC Schedule at Northern Illinois

DEKALB, Ill. – Kent State Men's Basketball continues their early Mid-American Conference slate on Tuesday, Jan. 7 at Northern Illinois. Tipoff between the Golden Flashes and Huskies is set for 7:00 p.m. eastern time. Most recently Kent State dropped their conference opener against Ball State on Jan. 4. Despite the loss to the Cardinals, the Flashes still had a trio of players in double-digits including a season high 12 points from redshirt sophomore guard Jamal Sumlin.
Against the Huskies
Historically, this will be the 69th meeting between the Kent State Golden Flashes and Northern Illinois Huskies. KSU owns the series all-time with a record 44-24 against NIU, and is looking to make it four straight wins over the Huskies having won the last three meetings. This streak includes their most recent meeting on Feb. 17, 2024, inside the M.A.C. Center where the Flashes dominated 85-47. Head Coach Rashon Burno helms the NIU program in his fourth season. He enters this matchup with an overall record of 37-69. Last season Northern Illinois posted a record of 11-20 not qualifying for the 2024 Mid-American Conference Championship tournament.
