Norman, Okla. – The Kent State Golden Flashes faced a tough challenge on Saturday afternoon, falling 44-0 to fifth-ranked Oklahoma in front of 83,016 fans at Gaylord Family-Oklahoma Memorial Stadium.
The game marked the return of quarterback Devin Kargman, who was making his first appearance since suffering a season-ending injury at Penn State in 2024. Running back Jordan Nubin also debuted for the Flashes.
Oklahoma's offense proved too much for Kent State to handle, as the Sooners built a 23-0 halftime lead and never looked back. Quarterback Michael Hawkins Jr. threw three touchdown passes, including two to Isaiah Sategna III, who finished with 75 receiving yards on four catches. The Sooners added a defensive touchdown when Gracen Halton recovered a fumble and returned it four yards for a score in the third quarter.
The Golden Flashes struggled to find an offensive rhythm throughout the game, managing 135 yards. Kent State was limited to 17 rushing yards on 33 carries and completed 10 of 19 passes for 118 yards with one interception. The Flashes converted just 2 of 13 third-down attempts and turned the ball over twice.
Kargman completed 8 of 16 passes for 74 yards before giving way to Deante Ruffin, who went 2-for-3 for 44 yards. DaShawn Martin led the receivers with 34 yards on two catches, while Ardell Banks hauled in a 34-yard reception in the fourth quarter. Nubin carried seven times for 18 yards in his first game as a Flash.
Defensively, Derrick Jackson III paced Kent State with eight tackles, while the Flashes recorded three sacks. Mason Woods, Jamond Mathis, and Jaihien Roy each registered sacks for Kent State.
Oklahoma dominated possession time (31:02 to 28:58) and outgained the Flashes 355-135 in total yards. The Sooners also held a significant advantage in first downs, 23-7.
Kent State (1-4) returns home for homecoming next Saturday, October 11, when they host UMass at 2:30 p.m. ET. Fans can purchase tickets for the game by clicking here.
