
Flashes To Host Bellarmine And Edinboro In Tri-State Santa Slam

Kent, Ohio- The Kent State Wrestling team will host The Tri-State Santa Slam in a Tri-Meet on Thursday night inside the Kent State Fieldhouse as they welcome in the Bellarmine Knights at 6 P.M. and the Edinboro Fighting Scots at 7:30 P.M. for the first Mid-American Conference Dual Action of the season.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes turned in an impressive outing at the Kent State Fieldhouse last weekend as Ethan Barr(174), Trent Thomas(184) and Brentan Simmerman(285) came away as Champions in their respective weight classes.
The Blue and Gold also finished with the most place-finishers of any school in the open with 17. Mason Tieffel(141) and Silas Stits(149) earned second place finishes with losses in the finals. Adan Benavidez(133), Landen Duncan(141), Keegan Knapp(157), Chris Earnest(165), Holden Martin(184) and Blake Schaffer(197) all finished in third-place.
Scouting Bellarmine
The Knights have started the season so far with a 1-3 record in dual meets. They share a common opponent with the Flashes in Ohio State as Bellarmine fell to the Buckeyes by a score of 41-3.
Bellarmine's lone win of the season came against Northern Illinois by a score of 23-13. The other two losses came against Iowa and Central Michigan.
Perhaps the strongest wrestler for the Knights sits in the 285-pound weight class in Daulton Mayer who comes in with a ranking of 33rd at a record of 3-5. AJ Rallo(141) is currently ranked 53rd in the nation with a record of 6-3. Trayce Eckman(133), Grant O'Dell(174) and Noah Hall(165) are also names to look out for.
Scouting Edinboro
The Fighting Scots have wrestled just one dual meet this season and it came in a 44-0 shutout victory over the Virginia Military Institute. Jared McGill(184) is ranked 17th in the nation according to Flo Wrestling with a record of 6-1 and will be someone to keep an eye on throughout the MAC this season.
Ryan Burgos(165) has a record of 11-3 this season and is ranked 38th while Chris Vargo(125) also has a top 50 ranking. Other top wrestlers for Edinboro include Ryan Michaels(149) and Tate Geiser(174) who has eight wins this season.
Series History
Thursday's meeting will be the second all-time between Kent State and Bellarmine as the two schools met for the first time last year with the Knights coming away with a 25-14 win. The Fighting Scots and The Golden Flashes will meet up for the 15th time as Edinboro has a lead in the series with an 8-6 all-time record.
