Kent State Wrestling To Face Gardner-Webb, Buffalo In Second Tri-Meet In Three Days

Buffalo, New York- The Golden Flashes travel up to Western New York for their second tri-meet in three days on Saturday when they take on the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs at 2 P.M. and the Buffalo Bulls at 4 P.M. inside Alumni Arena on the campus of the University at Buffalo.
Last Time Out
KSU hosted the Tri-State Santa Slam on Thursday in their first tri-meet of the season and split their two meets with a 18-16 win over Bellarmine followed by a 30-14 loss to MAC opponent Edinboro.
The Blue and Gold won six bouts in their first dual against Bellarmine as Nico Calello(125) set the tone with a 4-1 sudden victory over Damion Ryan in the first match of the day, scoring a takedown to end it. Freshman Silas Stits(149) also scored a takedown in sudden victory to secure a 9-6 victory over Zac Cowan(Bellarmine).
Reese Stephen(157), Carson Miller(165), Trent Thomas(184), and Blake Schaffer(197) all came away with decision victories to help their team to a dual win over the Knights.
Kent State started their dual against Edinboro off strong as Calello recorded a 19-4 Technical Fall over Austin Zimmerman. Nick Molchak(133) followed that up by pinning Amonn Ohl in the third round. Schaffer won the other match for the Golden Flashes to secure his second of the day in a 10-4 decision over Brody Evans.
Scouting Gardner-Webb
The Bulldogs have posted a dual record of 3-4 so far this season with wins against Bloomsburg, Centenary and Air Force. All four of their losses have been to power conference schools such as Rutgers, Maryland, Michigan State and Duke by two points.
The top dog for Gardner-Webb this season has been TK Davis(133) who comes in with a 9-1 record ranked 19th in the country according to Flo Wrestling. Tucker Cell(165), Josh McCutchen(197), Tyson Lane(125) and Joey Giordano(149) are other names to watch for the Bulldogs.
Scouting Buffalo
The Bulls have started 1-3 with their lone win coming against Bloomsburg. Their losses have come to Purdue, Pittsburgh and American so far this season.
Kaleb Burgess(157) has had an impressive year for Buffalo so far with a 8-2 record ranked 36th nationally. Sam Ewing(149), Kelin Laffey(165) and Rafael Knapp(174) are names to watch for as well with top 100 rankings.
Series History
Kent State, Gardner-Webb, and Buffalo will all meet-up together for the third straight season. In last year's tri-meet, the Blue and Gold lost two close meets to Gardner Webb by a score of 20-18 and Buffalo 24-18 in Kent, while also losing to both squads two years ago in North Carolina.
Saturday's meeting between the Flashes and the Bulldogs will be the 11th all-time as KSU currently holds a 7-3 record in the series with Gardner-Webb winning the last three. Kent State will also match-up with Buffalo for the 40th-time ever with the Flashes holding a 26-13 record.

Up Next
After finishing their fourth dual meet in three days, the Flashes will return home to Ohio for a non-conference dual meet against UT Chattanooga on Friday, December 19th for WWE Night. It will be the first competition for the Kent State Wrestling Team in the MAC Center this season. The first match is set to begin at 7 P.M.
