
Golden Flashes Set for First Conference Home Meet

KENT, Ohio - The Kent State gymnastics team returns home after two road meets for their first MACtion home meet against Western Michigan on Sunday at 1 p.m. The Flashes currently hold a 4-0 overall record after starting MAC competition 1-0 last Sunday at Eastern Michigan.
ABOUT THE FLASHES
Kent State opened MAC conference competition 1-0 last Sunday at Eastern Michigan, improving to 4-0 on the young season with a 195.425-194.525 victory. The Flashes won three of the four events both as a team and individually, with the Eagles claiming the advantage on beam on both accounts. Gabby Riley and Mya Migliore led the way on vault with scores of 9.850 each, followed closely by a 9.825 by Charlie Behner, who finished third in the event. Nastia Rudnitskaya won the event on bars with a 9.850, while Mya Migliore tied for second with a 9.825. On beam, Nene Alvine was Kent State's top finisher, coming in fourth in the event by earning a score of 9.800. A phenomenal routine by Alyssa Guns enabled the senior to win the event on the floor, garnering a score of 9.925 to win the event.
SCOUTING WESTERN MICHIGAN
The Broncos are 3-5 on the season after finishing behind Ball State and ahead of Wilberforce at a tri-meet in Muncie last Sunday. With their finish behind Ball State, Western Michigan will look to improve on a 0-1 start in conference competition when they visit Kent State on Sunday. The Broncos marked their highest score of the season, a 195.350, in a home tri-meet win over New Hampshire and Fisk on January 19. A key contributor for the Broncos is specialist Cassie St. Clair, who is averaging a 9.844 on the floor this season.
SERIES HISTORY
The Flashes traveled to Kalamazoo last March for the penultimate regular season meet of the 2024 season which saw Kent State claim a share of the MAC regular season championship. The Flashes recorded an all-around team score of 196.950, their fourth-best score of the season, to finish ahead of the Broncos' 195.650. Heidi Schultz, who was an All-MAC second-teamer last season, tied for first on beam with a score of 9.875 while Gabby Riley finished third with a 9.850. On vault, Charlie Behner earned a 9.875 to tie for third in the event. Despite not finishing in the top three in the event, Heidi Schultz and Alyssa Guns each earned impressive scores of 9.900 on the floor to help secure the win. In the all-time series with Western Michigan, the Flashes lead 62-24. Kent State currently holds a three-meet win streak in the series, with the Broncos' last win coming in 2021.
