
Cariaco Named to NCBWA Stopper of the Year Preseason Watch List

DALLAS- Kent State senior left-hander Peyton Cariaco has been named to the initial watch list for the 20th annual National Collegiate Baseball Writers Association (NCBWA) Stopper of the Year award.
The Stopper of the Year award is given out to the top relief pitcher in NCAA Division I Baseball, the association announced Wednesday. The institution or conference sports information directors submitted nominees. Of the 76 pitchers named to the initial Watch List, Cariaco is one of five representatives from the Mid-American Conference.
During his junior season last year, Cariaco made 25 appearances and posted a 3.15 ERA across 40 innings pitched. The lefty picked up five wins and saves (both team highs), struck out 29 batters, and limited opposing hitters to a .267 batting average.
The senior was a multi-inning fireman for the Flashes as 17 of his 25 outings saw him go for more than one inning. Against the rival Akron Zips Cariaco earned the save in all three games en route to a MAC player of the week award.
Kent State opens their season on Friday, Feb 14 at the South Alabama Invitational against Eastern Kentucky. The MAC portion of the schedule Mar 7 when Northern Illinois comes to Schoonover Stadium.
