
Flashes Softball Heads to Battle at the Beach

The 50th season of Kent State varsity softball resumes in Myrtle Beach with five games as part of the Battle of the Beach hosted by Coastal Carolina University.
Live stats will be available for all games via StatBroadcast, and Saturday evening's games against host Coastal Carolina will be streamed on ESPN+.

About the Flashes
A pair of walk-off victories bookended a 2-3 showing for Kent State at the Camel Stampeded over opening weekend. The Golden Flashes beat East Tennessee State, 7-6 in 11 innings, in the opener after trailing by one entering the bottom of the seventh through 11th innings. Extra innings were avoided in the weekend finale, as two runs scored in the bottom of the seventh to take down UMass, 10-9.
Delaney Robeson swung a hot bat to open her senior campaign and leads the Mid-American Conference with a .667 batting average and .773 on-base percentage, while ranking third with an .833 slugging percentage and .1566 OPS. Robeson had multiple hits in three of four games played and team-high six RBIs. Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner launched Kent State's lone home run and finished with a .412 batting average and four RBIs. Junior Brynn Libler, senior Katie Jo Moery and sophomore Aaralyn Nogay each reached safely in all five games.
Leitner (1-0) and senior Delaney Nagy (1-2) earned their first victories as Flashes. Nagy led the pitching staff with 12.1 innings pitched. Freshman Ella Johnson made relief appearances in all five games and had a team-high 10 strikeouts over 11.2 innings.
Scouting the Opposition
Marist
The reigning MAAC champions opened the season with a 4-1 record at Tarleton State's Texan Classic while outscoring its opposition 37-15. Miah McDonald, the 2024 MAAC Player of the Year, batted .625 with eight RBIs and three stolen bases to earn MAAC Player of the Week honors. Haley Ahr and Isabella Manory bot recorded .500 batting averages during the opening weekend. Manory hit two home runs and had a team-high 1.083 slugging percentage.
Kiley Myers (2-0) was named MAAC Pitcher of the Week and had a 0.57 ERA over 12.1 innings. Maddie Pleasants tossed a complete game with 11 strikeouts and allowed zero earned runs in her only appearance against McNeese State.
Towson
The Tigers posted a 2-3 record at the Terrier Invite during opening weekend with both victories over Youngstown State. Madyson Peters led the team at the plate with a .500 batting average, while Kristin Toland, Isabella Canesi and Cara Bohner each drove in four runs to share the team lead.
Amanda Medina (1-1) started three games in the circle and totaled 13 innings and five strikeouts with a 5.38 ERA.
Notre Dame
The Fighting Irish have won three in a row and went 3-3 overall at the NFCA Leadoff Classic. After being outscored 27-10 in three losses to start the season, Notre Dame turned it around with a 4-3 victory over No. 15 Missouri.

Coastal Carolina
After a 3-1 showing at the Kickin Chicken Classic this past weekend, the Catamounts dropped a 16-11 contest to North Carolina on Wednesday.
The pitching staff held three of four opponents to one or fewer runs during opening weekend. Nicolette Picone (2-0) has thrown a pair of complete games and has a team-high 11 strikeouts with a 2.28 ERA.
Clara Hudgens led the way at the plate with a .500 batting average and has totaled nine hits, seven runs scored and three stolen bases. Libby Pippin has a team-high eight RBIs and is one of three batters with multiple home runs.
Series History vs. Opponents
Kent State is scheduled to play both Marist and Towson for the first time in program history.
The Golden Flashes are 1-3 against Notre Dame. In the most recent matchup on May 17, 2008, Kent State posted a 7-6 victory in eight innings to advance to the championship round at the NCAA Ann Arbor Regional.
Kent State is 8-2 all-time against Coastal Carolina and has won five straight in the series dating back to a loss in 1996.
