
Flashes Use Big Sixth Inning to Beat Towson

CONWAY, S.C. – A five-running bottom of the sixth inning propelled Kent State to victory over Towson during the Friday's action at the Battle at the Beach. The Golden Flashes (3-4) went on to beat the Tigers, 9-6, in the second game of the day after falling to Marist, 6-3, in the morning.
Senior Katie Jo Moery led the way at the plate with three hits and three RBIs. Sophomore Aaralyn Nogay also had three RBIs to share the team lead and went 2-for-2 on stolen base attempts.
Game 1: Marist, 6, Kent State 3
The Golden Flashes got on the board first with three runs in the top of the fourth. Kendal Leitner drew a walk to open the frame. After an error placed runners on the corners, Aaralyn Nogay swiped second to put a pair in scoring position. Katie Jo Moery brought both home with a single down the left field line and then scored on Brynn Libler's double.
Marist pulled within 3-2 on back-to-back solo home runs in the bottom of the fourth. The Red Foxes tied it in the bottom of the seventh before winning with a three-run homer.
Ella Johnson recorded three strikeouts over four innings in her first collegiate start. Leitner (1-1) also had three strikeouts over two relief innings.
Game 2: Kent State 9, Towson 6
Savannah Wing got the scoring started with a leadoff blast in the bottom of the third inning. Kent State added two more runs on three hits in the frame as Aaralyn Nogay and Delaney Robeson recorded RBIs for a 3-0 lead.
After Towson got on the board in the top of the fourth, the Golden Flashes matched the run in the bottom of the fourth. A two-out single by Kasey Markusic placed runners on the corners, and Carley Penner followed with a single to right field for a 4-1 lead.
The Tigers were able to tie it with three runs in the top of the sixth.
Kent State put together four consecutive hits with two outs in the bottom of the sixth to go ahead 9-4. Nogay drove in a pair with a triple and scored on a single by Robeson. Katie Jo Moery followed with a RBI double and came home on a single by Kendal Leitner.
Towson rallied in the top of the seventh and sent the tying run to the plate but was unable to extend the game.
The Flashes totaled a season-high 13 hits in the contest. Markusic, Moery, Penner, Robeson and Wing had two hits each.
Delaney Nagy got the start in the circle and recorded two strikeouts over 5.1 innings. Ella Johnson (1-0) earned her first collegiate victory after pitching out of a jam in the sixth.
On Deck for the Flashes
Kent State is scheduled to play Notre Dame at 2:15 p.m. on Saturday and host Coastal Carolina at 7:15 p.m.
