
Kent State Drops Pair on Saturday at Battle at the Beach

CONWAY, S.C. – The Kent State softball team lost both of its game on Saturday at the Battle at the Beach.
The Golden Flashes (3-6) opened the day with a 5-0 loss to Notre Dame and then suffered a 9-4 setback to host Coastal Carolina.
Six of Kent State's base hits on the day went for extra bases. Senior Katie Jo Moery hit her first home run in a Flashes uniform and five different players recorded a double. Moery and senior Delaney Robeson led the way with two RBIs each, while sophomore Aaralyn Nogay and senior Savannah Wing had three hits each.
Game 1: Notre Dame, 5, Kent State 0
The Fighting Irish went ahead with a two-run homer in the bottom of the first and added single runs in the third, fourth and sixth innings.
Katie Jo Moery, Aaralyn Nogay and Delaney Robeson had singles for the Golden Flashes.
Delaney Nagy (1-3) got the start in the circle and had one strikeout while allowing three earned runs over four innings. Abbey Pochie tossed the final two innings and allowed one run on two hits..
Game 2: Coastal Carolina 9, Kent State 4
Five straight batters recorded hits as Kent State scored three runs in the top of the first. Aaralyn Nogay got it started with a single and then scored on a double to the gap in right-center by Delaney Robeson. Katie Jo Moery then homered to left field to make it 3-0. Savannah Wing and Kendal Leitner followed with singles, but the Golden Flashes were unable to add to the lead.
Robeson recorded another RBI in the top of the second on a groundout to make it 4-0.
Coastal Carolina got on the board in the bottom of the second inning and scored two runs to cut its deficit in half and tied it with two more runs in the bottom of the third. The Chanticleers added two more runs in the fourth to take the lead and scored three more in the sixth.
Kent State totaled 11 hits in the game, including three by Wing.
Abbey Pochie tossed the first three innings and recorded a pair of strikeouts.
On Deck for the Flashes
Sunday's slate of games at the Battle of the Beach has been canceled due to forecasted inclement weather. Kent State is scheduled to travel to Tampa next weekend for five games at the South Florida Showdown.
