KENT, Ohio – The Kent State gymnastics team hosted Central Michigan on Sunday afternoon at the MAC Center as MAC competition resumed for the Flashes. Kent State earned a narrow 195.350-195.300 victory over the Chippewas to improve to 7-2 overall and 4-0 in MAC meets.
The Flashes' team total of 195.350 was the team's second-highest score of the season, behind a 195.425 earned in late January at Eastern Michigan. Sunday marked the first time all season that Kent State has earned a 49.000 or better in multiple events in the same meet, eclipsing the mark on vault, beam, and floor.
ROTATION 1 – VAULT
After an impressive showing against Big Ten competition last weekend, Nene Alvine opened her meet in extremely impressive fashion on vault. The sophomore won the event by earning a 9.925, the joint-highest score across any event by any Kent State gymnast this season. Charlie Behner earned the Flashes' second-highest score with a 9.825.
ROTATION 2 – BARS
Despite some struggles by the Flashes in the second rotation on bars, Nastia Rudnitskaya tied for first in the event alongside two Central Michigan gymnasts at 9.825. Brynne Tsipis followed closely, matching her season-best score of 9.800.
ROTATION 3 – BEAM
A dominant afternoon continued for Alvine on the beam, where she claimed her second event win of the night with a score of 9.875. Heidi Schultz wasn't far behind with a 9.825, while Ashley Morgan and Alyssa Guns each tallied 9.800s for themselves.
ROTATION 4 – FLOOR
Alvine closed out her meet by winning a third event in the Flashes' final rotation on the floor as she earned a 9.875 in the event. In what was a back-and-forth final rotation which saw the meet result in the balance, Guns anchored the Kent State lineup with a 9.825 to clinch the close victory for Kent State.
