Golden Flashes Set for Friday Night Throw Down at Akron

KENT, Ohio – Kent State Men's Basketball (19-9, 9-6 MAC) returns to action on Friday, Feb. 28 against the University of Akron Zips. Tipoff is scheduled for 9:00 p.m. on ESPN2. The Golden Flashes look to build on the momentum of their 40-point win over the Toledo Rockets on Feb. 25. Five Flashes tallied double-digits on Kent State's way to a historic home conference win. Jamal Sumlin dropped a season and career high of 20 points.
Last Time Out
Most recently Kent State defeated the University of Toledo Rockets by a historic final score of 105-65. Five Flashes scored double-digits including VonCameron Davis (21) Jamal Sumlin (20), Marquis Barnett (19), Delrecco Gillespie (16), and Cli'Ron Hornbeak (13). Sumlin's 20 points shattered his earlier career and season high of 13. Barnett's 19 points marked his ninth double-digit game of the season and his second in three games dropping his second highest total. Gillespie's were his second highest point total of the season following a game in which he scored a career high. Hornbeak led KSU on the boards with nine. Sumlin led the Flashes in assists with seven.

Kent State University and the University of Akron are separated by just 12 miles. The Golden Flashes' overall record against the Zips is 82-84. According to records, Kent State's first meeting with the school down the road was during the first varsity season 108 years ago during the 1915-1916 season with Akron winning 37-16. KSU's first win in the series was during the 1926-1927 season by a final score of 23-21.
