Women’s Pentathlon Competitors Shine Friday at Jud Logan Light Giver Open

ASHLAND, Ohio – Impressive performances in the women's pentathlon by sophomore Shelby Grover junior Matilde Carboncini highlighted competition for the Kent State track and field program at the Jud Logan Light Giver Open on Friday.
The duo earned the top two spots in multis competition, with Grover's winning total of 3,777 giving her the No. 6 spot in the Golden Flashes' record. She set personal-best marks in three of the five events with a height of 5'-5" in the high jump, 40'-5" in the shot put and 2:31.31 in the 800-meter run. Carboncini finished with 3,705 points after starting the day with the fastest 60-meter hurdles time (8.87) in the field.
Redshirt sophomore Kennedy Landrus won the women's weight throw with a PR of 57'-7" and redshirt junior Noel Frye took fifth with a mark of 54'-1.25".
Redshirt junior Donovan Crawford had a strong showing in the men's weight throw elite competition, finishing fourth with a throw of 63'-4.75".
Sophomore Kyla Taress set a PR with a height of 12'-4.75" to tie for seventh in the women's pole vault elite competition.
Sophomore Owen Miller led Kent State on the track with a PR of 48.33 seconds for sixth in the men's 400-meter dash elite race.
The Flashes will resume action on Saturday with prelims of the men's 60-meter hurdles at 9:20 a.m.
