Four Flashes Drop Double-Digits as Kent State Advances to the MAC Tournament Semifinals

CLEVELAND – Kent State Men's Basketball (22-10) held off the Broncos of Western Michigan University on Thursday night winning the 2025 MAC quarterfinal contest by a final score of 73-66. Delrecco Gillespie (10 points, 10 rebounds), Marquis Barnett (18), Jalen Sullinger (13), and Cian Medley (13) all scored double-digits in the victory.
An early pop from Kent State was matched by Western Michigan by the nine minute mark in the first half. Over the next five minutes the Flashes created some separation with a 13-0 run with key buckets from Marquis Barnett and a thunderous slam from Delrecco Gillespie. Barnett hit four threes in the first half alone. The Flashes took a 43-25 lead into the break. The Broncos responded in the second half heating up and posting a 28-17 run to bring the game to one possession with just under 10 minutes left to play. Kent State put their foot back down on the gas pedal down the stretch with Cian Medley, Jamal Sumlin, and Jalen Sullinger all making key shots. Medley went on to ice the game with a jumper with 28 second left before Gillespie closed it out with free throws.
Gillespie now leads the Flashes in double-doubles with four on the year posting 10 rebounds and 10 points. It was the 12th double-double of the season for KSU this season. Marquis Barnett made a season high four three-pointers in the first half alone of Thursday's game his 18 points marked his 13th double-digit game and third time leading the Flashes in scoring. Medley and Sullinger also tallied double-digit performances 10 and 13 on the season.
With the win Kent State's neutral sight record against WMU moves to 4-2. The blue and gold have advanced to the MAC Tournament semifinals for now the fourth year in a row. Kent State will play the Miami University RedHawks in the semis at Rocket Arena on Friday, 14. Tipoff is scheduled for 7:30 p.m., or 30 minutes after the completion of game one.
