Bean Brilliant as Flashes Take Down Sycamores

GREENVILLE- The Kent State Golden Flashes finish their weekend at the Keith LeClair Classic with a 6-5 win over the Indiana State Sycamores.

Starting pitcher Jacob Bean delivered a quality start en route to his first win of the season. The sophomore pitched six innings of one run baseball while striking out four Sycamores.

Offensively Hayden Jatczak continued swinging a hot bat for the Flashes going 2-3 on the day with three RBIs and two runs scored.

Kent State jumped out to an early lead scoring two runs in the bottom of the first inning thanks to RBI singles by Jatczak and Brody Williams. Indiana State would respond with one run of their own in the top of the second inning.

The Kent state offense then erupted in the third inning scoring four runs. Jatczak drove in Luke Matthews and Jake Casey on an RBI triple and came into score a few pitches later on a wild pitch. Then Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe ripped a double up the left field line to bring in Hunter Klotz.

The Sycamores scored four runs of their own in the top of the seventh inning to cut the Flashes lead down to just one run.

The Flashes then turned the ball over to Ciaran Caughey who came in and pitch an inning only allowing one hit. Next out of the bullpen for the Flashes was their closer, Peyton Cariaco, who pitched the final 1.1 innings while striking out two. The save was Cariaco's second of the weekend and third of the season.

Kent State will be back in action at home on Tuesday March 4 when they welcome Mercyhurst into Schoonover Stadium. First pitch is slated for 3 p.m.
