
Schultz Wins Beam, Flashes Finish Third at MAC Championship

MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. – Heidi Schultz won the title on beam as the Kent State gymnastics team finished third at the MAC Championship on Saturday. The Flashes posted a 195.300 team score, falling short of host Central Michigan's 195.725 for the conference crown.
Schultz earned a 9.875 on beam to finish alone atop the standings in the event and take home conference gold. Gabby Riley and Alyssa Guns each took home medals as well, finishing second on vault and floor respectively.
Additionally, it was announced in the post-meet awards ceremony that head coach Brice Biggin has won MAC Coach of the Year. It marks the 12th time the tenured Kent State head coach has received the honor in his 34-year career at Kent State. Biggin led the Flashes to a 6-0 finish in the MAC this season.
ROTATION 1 – FLOOR
The Flashes opened the meet with their best event score of the day on the floor, posting a 49.200 in the event for the team's second-best score of the season. Kent State was led by Guns, who has anchored the team's floor lineup all season, with a 9.900 to finish tied for second and medal in the event. Nastia Rudnitskaya and Charlie Behener each earned 9.850s to finish with the Flashes' second-best scores on the floor.
ROTATION 2 – VAULT
Kent State was led by Riley on vault, who finished second in the event and took home silver with a 9.850. Riley matched her career-high in the event on the conference stage. Avery Compson and Rudnitskaya followed closely for the Flashes, each posting a 9.800.
ROTATION 3 – BARS
The Flashes were led on bars by Schultz, who finished top ten among all competitors with a 9.775. Behner earned a 9.750 for Kent State and Mya Migliore rounded out the Kent State gymnasts in the top 20 of the event with a 9.700.
ROTATION 4 – BEAM
Schultz dazzled in the final routine of the day for Kent State as her 9.875 topped the event standings to leave the championship with individual conference gold. Riley and Guns also posted the Flashes' second-best scores on beam, earning a pair of 9.775s.
