Golden Flashes Use Hit Parade to Post Saturday Split at Ohio State Tournament

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Every batter in the lineup contributed to a season-high 13 hits as Kent State beat Oakland, 8-6, in Saturday's nightcap at the Ohio State Tournament.

The Golden Flashes (6-15) lost to the host Buckeyes, 11-1, in the first game of the day.

Game 1: Ohio State 11, Kent State 1 (5 innings)
Ohio State homered four times and totaled eight extra-base hits in its first home game of the season.

Kent State's run came in the top of the second inning. Katie Jo Moery started the frame with a single and later scored from second on a single through the right side by Kendal Leitner to make it 3-1.

Game 2: Kent State 8, Oakland 6
Plate discipline allowed the Golden Flashes to score in the top of the first inning, as Brynn Libler collected a single to center field and scored after three straight walks.

A two-run single by Carley Penner gave Kent State a 3-0 lead in the second inning.

After Oakland got on the board in the bottom of the second, the Flashes plated two in the top of the third. Singles by Savannah Wing and Megan Claerhout, along with a pair of Golden Grizzlies errors, made it 5-1.

Ella Johnson got the final two outs in the bottom of the fourth after the lead was cut to 5-4.

Kent State extended its lead to 7-4 in the top of the fifth on a two-run single by Delaney Robeson.

Oakland threatened to go ahead in the bottom of the sixth before leaving two on base, and the Flashes led 7-6 entering the final inning.

A solo homer by Katie Jo Moery in the top of the seventh provided an insurance run.

Johnson (2-3) then retired the side to secure the victory. The freshman had three strikeouts and allowed only one earned run over 3.2 innings. Penner got the start in the circle and also had three strikeouts while allowing four runs over 3.1 innings.

On Deck for the Flashes
The Flashes are scheduled to play twice in Columbus on Sunday, beginning against Merrimack at 12:30 p.m. and then No. 1 Texas at 5:30 p.m.
