AUGUSTA, Ga. – Kent State was represented at the biggest stage in golf over the weekend as former Flashes golfer Corey Conners finished tied for eighth at The Masters.
The Canadian international opened the 89th edition of the event with a strong opening round on Thursday, carding a 4-under-par 68 to sit tied for second after 18 holes. At one point during the opening round, Conners was the leader in the clubhouse before Justin Rose tallied a 7-under-par 65 later in the day. Conners continued his strong start with a 2-under-par 70 on Friday to sit just two strokes shy of the lead entering Saturday's moving day.
Conners fired his second consecutive 2-under-par round of 70 on Saturday to improve to 8-under-par through 54 holes, putting him alone in third place and just four strokes behind eventual champion Rory McIlroy atop the leaderboard ahead of Masters Sunday. In the final round, Conners posted a 3-over-par 75 to conclude the Masters tied for eighth place at 5-under-par, clinching his fourth top-ten finish and best 72-hole score to par in seven appearances at The Masters.
A Kent State alum, Conners played collegiately for the Flashes from 2010 to 2014 under legendary head coach Herb Page. He was a three-time First Team All-MAC honoree, a PING Third Team All-American in 2013, and the 2014 Co-MAC Player of the Year alongside teammate Taylor Pendrith, who is also currently on the PGA Tour and made his Masters debut this past weekend.
