
Softball Begins Homestand Wednesday Against Buffalo

The Kent State softball team is scheduled to play five home games at Devine Diamond this week, beginning with a doubleheader against Buffalo on Wednesday at 1 p.m.
About the Flashes
Kent State battled Central Michigan in the first two games of this past weekend's series in Mount Pleasant before an eight-run inning helped the host record a run-rule victory in the finale. Sophomore Megan Claerhout led the Golden Flashes at the plate with five hits and two RBIs. Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner drove in four runs and batted .500 for the series.
Senior Delaney Robeson leads the lineup in several hitting categories overall, including hits (39), home runs (3) and RBIs (27). Junior Brynn Libler has a seven-game hitting streak and is tied for the conference lead with three triples. Libler has a career-best .315 batting average and leads Kent State with 28 runs scored. Senior Katie Jo Moery has added power to the lineup with 14 extra-base hits and is second on the team with 20 RBIs.
Freshman Ella Johnson ranks seventh in the country with 33 appearances and has a team-high 50 strikeouts.
Scouting the Opposition
After winning the opening game of the series, Buffalo (9-26, 4-10 MAC) lost a doubleheader to Northern Illinois on Saturday afternoon. The Bulls are last in the MAC with an average of 3.60 runs per game and have scored three or fewer runs in four of the last five contests.
Emily Gorman is among the top freshmen performers in the conference this season and ranks second in the MAC in on-base percentage (.518) and third in batting average (.424). Abbey Nagel is hitting .350 and has a team-high 10 doubles, while Isabella Smithson leads UB with 25 RBIs.
Olivia Russ (4-10) and Genevieve Longsdorf (1-9) have thrown the bulk of the innings in the circle. Russ has a 5.36 ERA and 54 strikeouts, while Longsdorf has a 5.65 ERA and 55 strikeouts.
Series History
Kent State is 48-16 all-time against Buffalo after the teams split a doubleheader last season.

It will be Senior Weekend at Devine Diamond, as Kent State hosts Northern Illinois for a three-game series on Saturday and Sunday.
