YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio – Kent State totaled a season-high 16 hits as non-conference play concluded on Tuesday with a 13-3 victory over Youngstown State.
All nine batters had at least one hit. Sophomore Aaralyn Nogay set the tone from the leadoff spot with four hits, four runs scored and two stolen bases. Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner had three hits and sophomore Leilani Johnson, senior Katie Jo Moery and junior Carley Penner added two each.
Nogay started the game with a single to right field and then stole second base. After moving to third on a sac bunt, she scored on a groundout to the right side by sophomore Megan Claerhout.
Behind a trio of extra-base hits, the Golden Flashes went ahead 5-0 in the top of the second, which started with an infield single by Penner. After a walk, Johnson doubled to center field to score a pair. Nogay and junior Brynn Libler drove in the final two runs of the frame on a triple and a double, respectively.
The Penguins struck for a pair of runs in the bottom of the third.
Kent State added single runs in the fifth and sixth. Moery ripped a single that scored Leitner in the fifth. Nogay led off the sixth with her third hit of the day before stealing second, advancing to third on a fly ball and scoring on a passed ball.

The offense provided six insurance runs on six singles in the top of the seventh for the first double-digit win of the season.
