AMHERST, Va. – The Kent State men's golf team wrapped up the 2024-25 season on Wednesday with the conclusion of round three of the Amherst NCAA Regional at Poplar Grove Golf Club. The Flashes posted a 3-over-par 283 in the final round to conclude the tournament at 17-over-par and in tenth place among the 13 teams competing.
Kent State competed to the end for a top-five finish and a spot in the NCAA Championship, but fell just short. No. 19 Pepperdine used a strong 3-under-par final round to climb to fifth place at 9-over-par and claim the final spot, finishing eight strokes ahead of the Flashes.
The Flashes' top finisher after 54 holes was Jordan Gilkison. After a 66 in round two on Monday, Gilkison posted a 1-over-par 71 in round three to finish at 1-under-par and tied for 14th. Gilkison flirted with the NCAA Championship individual qualifier spot, climbing as high as third place on the back of three consecutive birdies, but a pair of bogeys down the stretch pushed him away from the top spot. The senior concludes a phenomenal four-year career with a top-15 NCAA Regional finish in addition to MAC Golfer of the Year, First Team All-MAC, and MAC individual medalist honors.
Kent State's best score in round three was recorded by Bryce Reed, who fired a 1-under-par 69 on Wednesday. The final round, featuring three birdies and just two bogeys, saw Reed climb ten spots in the individual standings to a tie for 43rd after 54 holes. Reed concludes the final tournament of his collegiate career at 7-over-par after earning Second Team All-MAC honors for the second consecutive season as a senior.
Isaiah Ibit tallied the Flashes' second-best finish across three rounds after firing a 2-over-par 72 on Wednesday. The MAC Freshman of the Year concludes an impressive debut collegiate season with a tied 34th-place NCAA Regional finish at 5-over-par. Ibit had a joint team-high four birdies in round three, including back-to-back birdies to conclude his final round.
The other countable score for Kent State on Wednesday was recorded by Ramiro Acevedo. After starting the Amherst Regional as a substitute for the Flashes, the freshman appeared in each of the final two rounds. Acevedo posted a 1-over-par 71 in round three, highlighted by a consistent performance of 16 pars and one birdie. He concludes the Amherst Regional with a 7-over-par score through two rounds of play.
A historic 2024-25 season comes to an end for the Flashes, which saw the team win its 29th MAC Championship, claim three MAC specialty awards, and three All-MAC selections.
