
Jay Captures Gold on Thursday at MAC Outdoor T&F Championships

ATHENS, Ohio – Freshman Kristen Jay won the javelin to lead Kent State in action on the first day of competition at the 2025 Mid-American Conference Women's Track and Field Championship.
Jay's first throw of the day was her best and soared 155'-9", which is just three inches off her personal-best.
The Golden Flashes scored in two of the other three scored events on the opening day of action. Kyla Taress recorded a PR of 12'-7.5" for sixth in the pole vault and Noel Frye placed eighth in the hammer throw with a mark of 170'.
Shelby Grover and Svenia De Coninck sit second and third, respectively, in the heptathlon standings. Grover is 74 points off the lead with 3,288 and posted PRs in the shot put (49'-9.75") and the 200-meter dash (25.21). De Coninck totaled 3,142 points and closed the day with a personal-best of 26.03 seconds in the 200m. Alexa Nestor sits seventh with 2,877 points.
Kent State had three student-athletes advance to Saturday finals in running events. Amryne Chilton qualified in the 200-meter dash, while Marinna Atanmo and Alexandria Verbancic advanced in the 400-meter hurdles.
Competition resumes at 11:30 a.m. on Friday with the heptathlon long jump.
