
Golden Flashes Softball to Close Season with Rivalry Series

Kent State will finish the 50th softball season of varsity status by playing a three-game series at rival Akron this weekend. A doubleheader will be played on Saturday and the final game on Sunday. First pitch is scheduled for 12 p.m. both days.
About the Flashes
Kent State has won four of its last seven games entering the final series of the season after splitting a doubleheader with Toledo on Wednesday.
Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner ranks third in the Mid-American Conference in batting average (.404) and OPS (1.102) while leading the Golden Flashes with six home runs and 37 RBIs. Over the past 10 games, Leitner is hitting .459 with four home runs and 24 RBIs.
Junior Brynn Libler has a career-best .358 batting average and leads the team with 58 hits and 43 runs scored.
Freshman Ella Johnson is tied for fifth in the country with 41 appearances and has a team-high 60 strikeouts.
Scouting the Opposition
Akron (26-23, 13-9 MAC) has clinched a spot in next week's MAC Tournament and will either be the No. 5 or No. 6 seed. Meagan Lee leads the conference with 66 hits and has reached base in 15 consecutive games. Sophia Wygast provides a powerful bat and leads the Zips with seven home runs and 35 RBIs.
Macy Walters (14-9) ranks third in the MAC with 15 complete games and has tossed a team-high 133.2 innings this season.
Series History
Kent State is 89-50-1 all-time against Akron after splitting a two-game shortened series last season at Devine Diamond. The Golden Flashes have won six of the last seven games played at Lee R. Jackson Field in Akron.
