Kent State Softball Finishes Season with Rivalry Doubleheader

AKRON, Ohio – The Kent State softball team lost by scores of 13-2 and 11-3 in a doubleheader against rival Akron on Saturday to close the season.
Junior Brynn Libler went 3-for-3 in the opener and finished the season with 61 hits, tied for the most by a Golden Flash since 2010 and ranks eighth overall on the single-season list.
Redshirt sophomore Kendal Leitner had two hits on the day and finishes the season as with the ninth season hitting .400 or better in program history.
Game 1: Akron 13, Kent State 2 (5 innings)
The Zips scored a single run in each of the first two innings to lead 2-0.
The Golden Flashes pulled even in the top of the third, as Kasey Markusic put them on the board with a solo home run to left field. Aaralyn Nogay then drew a walk and stole second base before scoring on a single to the outfield by Brynn Libler.
A two-out triple allowed Akron to score three and retake the lead in the bottom of the third before plating eight in the bottom of the fourth.
Game 2: Akron 11, Kent State 3 (5 innings)
The Flashes struck for a trio of runs in the top of the second. Megan Claerhout got the frame started with a single through the right side. Delaney Robeson then legged out a bunt single. After a sac bunt moved both runners into scoring position, Katie Jo Moery brought them home with a single to center field. Aaralyn Nogay then hit a triple to make it 3-0.
Akron took a 4-3 lead in the bottom of the third and then walked it off with seven runs in the bottom of the fifth.
