LUBBOCK, Texas - The Kent State Golden Flashes suffered a 62-14 defeat to the Texas Tech Red Raiders on Saturday afternoon at Jones AT&T Stadium, dropping their record to 1-1.
Game Summary
Despite entering the fourth quarter trailing 55-0, the Golden Flashes showed resilience by scoring two touchdowns in the final period. Quarterback Dru DeShields accounted for both scores, rushing for a 10-yard touchdown and throwing a 16-yard touchdown pass to Cade Wolford.
The Red Raiders controlled the game from the opening drive, building a 21-0 first quarter lead and extending it to 48-0 by halftime. Texas Tech's balanced offensive attack totaled 601 yards, including 230 rushing yards and 371 passing yards.
Offensive Highlights
Dru DeShields led the Kent State offense, completing 7-of-15 passes for 116 yards and one touchdown while adding 22 rushing yards and a touchdown. The sophomore quarterback was most effective in the fourth quarter, engineering both scoring drives.

Cade Wolford was the primary receiving target, hauling two catches for 19 yards and the team's lone passing touchdown. Ardell Banks contributed two receptions for 49 yards, including a 38-yard completion in the third quarter.
On the ground, Gavin Garcia carried the load with 12 rushes for 25 net yards, while Marques Hicks provided a spark with 17 yards on just two carries.
Defensive Efforts
The Golden Flashes' defense was led by Sayed Abuhamdeh, who recorded seven tackles and one for loss. Nylan Brown and Joel Cordoba each contributed seven tackles in the losing effort.
Kent State forced one Texas Tech fumble, recovered by Terrell Miller in the fourth quarter, which led directly to the team's second touchdown.
