Rochester Hills, Michigan- The Kent State Soccer team competed in their final non-conference game of the season on Sunday against the Oakland University Golden Grizzlies. Both teams were able to score early in the first half and then battled with tough defense throughout the rest of the game to force a 1-1 draw.

Oakland was first to get on the scoreboard as they started the game aggressively on the offensive end. In the 2nd-minute, Brae Cole put one in the back of the net to score her fifth goal of the season. She has scored five of the Golden Grizzlies six goals so far this season.

In the 26th-minute, the Golden Flashes got on the board with the equalizer as freshman forward Mia Cleroux scored her second goal of the season. The final 64 minutes produced intense defense on both sides, ending the contest in a 1-1 final score.

The Golden Grizzlies led KSU in shots with a tally of 18-15, while Oakland had nine shots on target compared to KSU's 8. However, the Blue and Gold led in the Corner Kick statistic by a count of 6-4. Leah Schaffer had another solid game in the net, racking up 8 saves. She now has 38 heading into conference play.

Up Next

The Flashes will now turn their attention towards conference action in the Mid-American Conference. Their first opponent will be the Bowling Green Falcons on the road for the fourth straight game. Kickoff is set for 1 p.m. Sunday at Mickey Cochrane Field.
