Bowling Green, Ohio - The Kent State Soccer team opened up conference action against an evenly-matched Bowling Green squad Sunday. The Flashes fought hard for a full 90-minutes but fell just short in a 2-1 loss on the road.

After solid defense on both ends for the majority of the first half, the Falcons broke through first in the 35th-minute as Emma Stransky scored on a header assisted by Ellie Pool to take a 1-0 lead heading into the halftime break.

In the 50th-minute, the Flashes tied up the game with a great set piece on a corner kick from junior midfielder Samantha Miller to senior defender Kelsey Salopek who put the ball in the back of the net with her head.

Bowling Green responded with another goal of their own just 8 minutes later as Stransky scored again. Gabby Lamparty and Emme Butera were credited with assists.

Kent State produced great opportunities in the final minutes including three close shots from corners in the final two minutes, but the Falcons came up with stops late to secure the 2-1 victory for the home team.

The Blue and Gold dominated in the shooting department leading 16-7 with seven shots-on-goal compared to Bowling Green's three. The Flashes also led in the corner kick department with a tally of 9-4.

The Flashes will now turn their attention to their final game of a five-game road trip when they take on Ball State next Sunday at 1 p.m.
