Golden Flashes Golf Under Par as a Team for First Time this Fall

MEDINAH, Ill. – The Kent State Dr. Paula Treckel Women's Golf team finished in 7th place in the Illini Women's Invitational on Tuesday afternoon after posting an 860 final score at four strokes below par.
The performance continued the team's trend of improving every week as the Golden Flashes shot under par as a team for the first time this season. Overall, 10 of the 19 combined rounds competed by Kent State golfers finished below par.
Leading the charge for Kent State were Petra Babicova and Gracie Larsen. The duo each tied for 26th individually after each tallied a -1 (215) score through the three round event.
Babicova reached the top of the team leaderboard for the first time this season, becoming the fourth different Golden Flashes golfer to reach the milestone this year, further showcasing the team's variety of consistency. Babicova shot two 69's in the opening and closing rounds. However, a 77 in round two hindered her potential to reach the individual top 10 status. Similarly, Gracie Larsen shot a 69 in the opening round and a 70 in round three to offset her 76 in round two.
As a whole, the Golden Flashes shot an outstanding -9 in round one and a -4 in round three. After the opening round, Kent State was tied for third place in the event. The team slipped slightly in round two after shooting a +14, but the opening and closing rounds were enough to put the team below par overall. The Illini Women's invitational was also the first tournament this season where every Golden Flashes golfer shot at least one round under par.
Elsewhere in the tournament, the Indiana Hoosiers were victorious as a team after shooting 24 strokes below par and one stroke better than Ole Miss. Meanwhile, Minnesota's Mariana Mesones nearly shot below a 200 as she finished the event 15 strokes below par as the individual winner.

Kent State Women's Golf will compete in their final tournament of the fall on the weekend of Oct. 23-25 in Wilmington, N.C at the Landfall Tradition, hosted by UNCW. The Golden Flashes will get 10 days to prepare for the fall finale which will be followed by a two month mid-season break prior to the start of the spring season.
