KENT, Ohio – The Kent State Soccer team received a hard-earned point in Mid-American Conference play at home against Ball State in a scoreless draw on Thursday night. It was also the first conference draw for the Flashes this season.Â
Both teams applied a lot of pressure on defense in a game where shots were hard to come by, much like the last meeting between the two programs in the MAC quarterfinals a season ago.Â
The best two chances of the night for the Flashes came in the 14th-minute and the 89-minute respectively. Junior defender Ali Weibel put a shot on target that was saved by Ball State's Kate Pallante, while freshman forward Lila Simon fired a shot from distance in the end of the game that was just to the left of the goal.
Ball State won in the shots category by a tally of 9-8, while four of them were on target compared to one for the Golden Flashes. Kent State edged the Cardinals in the corner kick department 3-2.
Junior goalkeeper Leah Shaffer played all 90 minutes in net for the blue and gold as she was able to produce four saves and a shutout in the second consecutive game on nine shots faced.
