SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Sacramento State pulled away with 25 unanswered second-half points to hand Kent State a 31-10 defeat Friday night at Hornet Stadium. The Golden Flashes fell to 3-6 overall on the season.

Kent State made an immediate impact on defense to open the game, as Antonio Bottiggi recorded his first career sack on the very first play from scrimmage. On the next snap, Josue Cordoba recovered his first career fumble at the Hornets' 24-yard line to put the Flashes in early scoring position. Later in the opening quarter, Dru DeShields connected with Wayne Harris for an explosive 92-yard touchdown pass to give Kent State a 7-0 lead. The 92-yard scoring strike stood as the longest pass and catch of both DeShields' and Harris' collegiate careers, and the play pushed Harris past 1,000 career receiving yards. Sacramento State responded with a pair of Grant Meadors field goals in the second quarter to trim the lead to 7-6, but Tommy Newcomb drilled a 29-yard field goal as time expired in the half to send the Flashes into the locker room with a 10-6 advantage.

The Hornets made a 36-yard Meadors field goal to narrow the margin before Isaiah Ene broke free for a 35-yard touchdown run to give Sacramento State its first lead at 17-10 late in the third quarter. In the fourth quarter, Donovan Turner intercepted a pass and returned it 38 yards for a touchdown to extend the Hornets' lead to 24-10, and Ene added a 5-yard touchdown run following a turnover to take a 31-10 lead.

Harris led the receiving corps with three receptions for 122 yards and the milestone touchdown. Brendyn Smith contributed 39 receiving yards on four catches in addition to 55 kickoff return yards, while Jakorion Caffey caught three passes for 19 yards. Brandon White paced the backfield effort with 33 rushing yards on 10 carries alongside three receptions.

DeShields finished 16-of-33 passing for 190 yards, one touchdown, and one interception, while leading the Flashes on the ground with 43 rushing yards on 10 carries. Kent State generated 302 total yards of offense, including 209 through the air, and converted 4-of-13 third-down opportunities.

Defensively, Hayden Dawahare and Josue Cordoba tied for the team lead with six total tackles apiece. Joel Cordoba and Darian Blachewicz each logged five tackles, with Blachewicz adding 1.5 tackles for loss. Bottiggi registered four tackles, 1.5 TFLs, and his opening-play sack, while Trey Rubinstein recorded four stops and a 10-yard sack.

Golden Flashes are on bye this week before traveling to play Bowling Green on Tuesday, November 10, for their first midweek MACtion game.
