DAYTON, Ohio – The Kent State baseball team dropped an 8-1 decision to Wright State on Wednesday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
Wright State (2-5) got on the board first in the second inning when a pitch hit JP Peltier, stole second, and came around to score on a two-run home run by Patrick Fultz to left-center, giving the Raiders a 2-0 lead.
The Raiders broke the game open in the third inning with four runs. Gus Gregory led off with a bunt single, and Hunter Warren followed with a single up the middle. Braylen Blomquist added another single to load the bases. Peltier doubled down the left field line to drive in two runs, extending the lead to 4-0.
After Parker Lind replaced Brody Krzysiak on the mound, Andrew Duncan reached on a fielder's choice that scored Blomquist, making it 5-0. Nate Manley then walked with the bases loaded to force in Peltier, giving Wright State a 6-0 advantage.
Krzysiak took the loss for Kent State (5-3), allowing six runs on five hits over 2.1 innings while striking out two batters. The Flashes used six pitchers in total, with Jordan Kolenda providing the best relief work by pitching two scoreless innings and striking out three.
Wright State added another run in the fifth inning when Fultz hit his second home run of the game, a solo shot to left field that made it 7-0. Duncan singled and stole second in the seventh inning before scoring on a Cy Turner single to extend the Raiders' lead to 8-0.
Kent State finally broke through in the seventh inning. Brody Williams doubled to right-center and eventually scored on a bases-loaded walk to Sawyer Solitaria, cutting the deficit to 8-1. However, Luke Matthews hit into a double play to end the threat.
Williams led the Flashes at the plate, going 2-for-4 with a double and a run scored. Micah Rienstra-Kiracofe added two hits, finishing 2-for-4.
Chet Lax earned the win for Wright State, pitching three scoreless innings while allowing two hits and striking out four batters.
The Flashes will return home to Schoonover Stadium on Friday, February 27, to host Rhode Island in a four-game weekend series.
