Kent State Falls to Wofford in Terrier Invite Finale

SPARTANBURG, S.C. – Kent State dropped its final game of the Terrier Invite on Sunday afternoon, falling to host Wofford 10-4 at Hope Field. The Golden Flashes (2-3) were unable to overcome an early five-run deficit despite a late rally attempt against the Terriers. Freshman Caleigh Shaulis led the offense with a trio of RBIs, including a two-run home run in the sixth inning. Brynn Libler, Ashlyn Porter, Megan Claerhout, Brooke Aberle, Alex Trevena, and Tayler Likens each recorded hits for KSU

Wofford built and early lead scoring five runs in the bottom of the first inning.

Kent State broke through in the top of the fourth with two runs. Libler led off with a single to left field and Porter followed with a single up the middle. Claerhout walked to load the bases, and Gabby Quinn was hit by a pitch to force in Libler. Shaulis doubled to right field to drive in Porter and cut the deficit to 5-2.

Wofford added a run in the bottom of the fifth. The Golden Flashes answered with two runs in the sixth to pull within 6-4. Claerhout singled through the left side and moved to second on a Quinn ground out. Shaulis followed with her first collegiate home run that scored two as the ball pinged off center field flag pole.

The Terriers put the game out of reach with four runs in the bottom of the sixth. Kent State was retired in order in the top of the seventh. The Golden Flashes finished with eight hits and four RBIs in the contest.

On Deck for the Flashes

The Golden Flashes will be back in action on Friday, Feb. 13 in the Winthrop Garnet & Gold Tournament. Kent State will play Robert Morris University, Le Moyne College, and host Winthrop University over the course of the weekend.
