
Golden Flashes Host Midweek Doubleheader with Mercyhurst on Wednesday

KENT – Kent State Softball (12-13, 4-2 MAC) returns to Devine Diamond on Wednesday, March 25 a twin bill against the Lakers of Mercyhurst University. First pitch times are slated for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. The games will be broadcast via BoxCast and links to the streams can be found above or on the softball schedule page. It is the first of two non-conference doubleheaders left on Kent State's schedule with Youngtown State scheduled for April 21.
Last Time Out
The Golden Flashes went 1-2 in their three-game series at Buffalo this past weekend (March 20-21) dropping the opener on Friday before splitting Saturday's doubleheader picking up their fourth MAC win of the year. In the series opener on Friday, the Flashes fell 14-1 via run rule with Brynn Libler's triple the offensive highlight in a game. Saturday's doubleheader opened with a 6-4 loss in the full seven innings. The Flashes showed fight with a four-run third inning rally fueled by a Megan Claerhout two-RBI single and an RBI single from Ashlyn Porter, with Aaralyn Nogay going 3-for-4 at the plate. The Blue and Gold bounced back in the series finale with a convincing 7-1 victory behind a dominant complete-game performance from Riley Miller, who allowed just one earned run on seven hits across seven innings. The offense came alive with home runs from Libler, Caleigh Shaulis, and Ciara Camacho while Claerhout and Porter each added key hits to power Kent State to a win in the series finale.
Scouting Mercyhurst
The Mercyhurst Lakers sit at 2-14 overall and 1-2 in conference play through 16 games. Offensively, Karlie Kasten has been consistent in the lineup hitting .353 with a 1.000 fielding percentage behind the plate. Mackenzie Gillis has been solid at .333 in limited starts and Natalie Cully is averaging .313. Mercyhurst has posted an ERA of 8.49 in the circle with opponents hitting .374 against Mercyhurst arms. Gabriella DeLuca has been the most reliable option in the circle with a 5.33 ERA across 22.1 innings.
On Deck for the Flashes
Following Mercyhurst, Kent State will turn their attention to their second road MAC series of the season at Miami (OH) University. The series gets underway on Friday, March 27 at 3:00 p.m., and continues Saturday, March 28 with a doubleheader starting at 1:00 p.m. The series finale is scheduled for 3:00 p.m.
