
Kent State Drops a Pair in Saturday Series Finale

MUNCIE, Ind. – The Kent State Softball team fell in a pair of decisions on Saturday afternoon at Ball State University. The Golden Flashes dropped game one to the Cardinals 12-5 prior a hard-fought game two that ended in a BSU walk off as they completed the series sweep.
Game 1: Kent State 5, Ball State 12
Kent State managed a run in the top of the first when Ashlyn Porter delivered an RBI single to score Brynn Libler, who had reached on a hit by pitch. Ball State plated eight in the bottom of the first to take the initial lead.
The Flashes provided their best offensive inning in the fourth, scoring four times to pull within 8-5. Alex Trevena doubled down the right field line and Brooke Aberle followed with a two-run single to left field to score both Trevena and Leilani Johnson. Aaralyn Nogay then singled to center and scored on a wild pitch after reaching third on a Ball State error, capping the four-run frame.
Nogay finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, while Aberle's two-run single was the key blow of the afternoon. Porter contributed a hit and an RBI.
Game 2: Kent State 4, Ball State 5
Kent State grabbed the lead in the second inning when Gabby Quinn doubled to center and scored on a Leilani Johnson RBI single. The Flashes and Cardinals then traded the lead back and forth through the middle innings before Kent State put together their best rally of the game in the sixth. With the Flashes trailing 3-1, Aaralyn Nogay singled and Porter followed with a single to put two on. Caleigh Shaulis then delivered a two-run double down the left field line to score both Nogay and Porter and tie the game at three. Megan Claerhout immediately followed with an RBI single to score Shaulis and give Kent State a 4-3 advantage heading to the bottom of the sixth.
Ball State tied it in the bottom of the sixth on a sacrifice fly before walking it off in the seventh on an RBI double to end the series.
Shaulis had a strong afternoon at the plate with a double and two RBIs as the offensive spark in the sixth. Quinn went 2-for-3 and reached base multiple times, while Nogay, Porter, Claerhout, and Johnson each contributed hits and runs in what was a competitive effort from the Flashes.
On Deck for the Flashes
The Blue and Gold return home for the final series of the regular season May 1-2 hosting Western Michigan University. The series begins Friday, May 1 at 1:00 p.m., and wraps up with a doubleheader Saturday, May 2 with 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. start times. Saturday, May 2 is Senior Day at Devine Diamond.
