Golden Flashes to Host Senior Weekend Series Against Western Michigan

KENT – The Kent State University Softball team hosts their final home series of the season this weekend. The Golden Flashes will take on the Broncos of Western Michigan University beginning on Friday, May 1 at 3:00 p.m. The series then finishes on Saturday, May 2 with a doubleheader scheduled for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m. On Saturday Kent State Softball will be celebrating their graduating seniors Kasey Markusic and Brynn Libler. Last Time Out
Kent State dropped all three games in its series at Ball State this past weekend, falling 4-3 (8 innings), 12-5, and 5-4. In Friday's opener, the Golden Flashes led 3-1 heading into the fifth inning before Ball State rallied to tie it, ultimately winning on a walk-off single in the eighth. In game one of Saturday's doubleheader Ball State plated eight runs in the first inning going on to tally 12 in the ballgame. The Flashes showed fight in the finale taking a 4-3 lead into the seventh before the Cardinals delivered a walk-off RBI double take the sweep. Aaralyn Nogay was a consistent bright spot throughout the series, recording multiple hits in each game.
Scouting the Broncos
Western Michigan enters the final series of the regular season at 24-23 overall and 13-11 in MAC play, sitting in sixth place and on the doorstep of the MAC Tournament. The Broncos have hit a record 45 home runs on the season led by freshman Bella Duncan has nine on the year to go along with 46 RBIs. Senior Jordan Smith has also been a force hitting .352 with eight home runs and 29 RBIs, while junior Caitlin Tighe adds six home runs and a .313 average. In the circle, Western Michigan leans heavily freshmen Hannah Potts (11-13, 4.59 ERA) and Ava Geyer (9-7, 3.35 ERA), who have both surpassed 100 strikeouts on the season. The Broncos also lead the MAC with 37 sacrifice bunts.
