KENT, Ohio — Kent State head football coach Mark Carney has announced the addition of Dave Bucar to the Golden Flashes' coaching staff as the tight ends coach.
"I'm thrilled to welcome coach Dave Bucar and his family to Kent State as our new tight ends coach," said Carney. His outstanding track record as a developer of talent and passion for recruiting in this area adds incredible value to our staff. Although we've never worked together before, we have many mutual connections who have spoken extremely highly of his character, and that stood out immediately in our initial conversations. I'm excited to get Coach Bucar into the mix with spring recruiting in full swing."
Bucar brings more than a decade of collegiate coaching experience to Kent, having served in various offensive capacities at programs across multiple levels of college football. Most recently, he spent the 2025 season at UAlbany as the offensive line coach.
Before his time with the Great Danes, Bucar spent two seasons at Maine, joining the Black Bears' staff in the summer of 2023 as the offensive line coach before taking on the additional duties of run game coordinator in March of 2024.
Before arriving in Orono, Bucar logged four seasons at Boston College, serving as an offensive analyst, during which he held roles as assistant offensive line coach, assistant tight ends coach, and run game coordinator. His Power Five experience also includes a stint as tight ends coach and run game coordinator at Maryland during the 2018 season, as well as time as an offensive analyst at LSU in 2017.
Bucar's coaching roots trace back to Pittsburgh, where he spent four seasons as an offensive assistant before serving two seasons as the Panthers' assistant offensive line coach in 2015 and 2016. He also served as offensive line coach and run game coordinator at Tiffin University in 2013 and 2014, and as assistant head coach, offensive line coach, and run game coordinator at Valparaiso before his time at Maryland.
A native of Trafford, Pennsylvania, Bucar played offensive line at Washington & Jefferson, where he earned two All-Presidents' Athletic Conference first-team honors.
The Flashes open the season at South Carolina on September 5, and return home the following week for the home-opener versus Wofford on September 12. Season tickets for the 2026 season are available now at KSUtix.com.
