Kent State Drops Series Opener Against Akron

KENT – Kent State Softball (17-17, 7-6 MAC) dropped their series opener against the University of Akron on Tuesday by a final score of 13-5. The Golden Flashes found themselves in a hole early in the ball game that proved to be insurmountable.

Akron plated five runs before Kent State could record three outs.

Aaralyn Nogay was once again one of the brightest spots in the lineup, going 2-for-3 with a walk and scoring twice. Brooke Aberle reached base twice and scored two runs. Brynn Libler delivered the biggest hit of the day knocking a two-run single to right center in the fifth inning that got the Flashes on the board at 10-2.

The Golden Flashes put together their best sequence of the afternoon in the bottom of the fifth, loading the bases on consecutive singles from Trevena, Aberle, and Nogay before Libler's two-run single and a heads-up baserunning play cut the deficit to 10-3. Kent State added two more in the seventh on an error and an Ashlyn Porter RBI single.

On Deck for the Flashes

Kent State's series vs. Akron continues Wednesday, April 8 with a doubleheader at Devine Diamond. Start times for the doubleheader are set for 1:00 p.m. and 3:00 p.m.
