
Kent State Falls to Akron in Series Sweep

KENT – Kent State Softball (17-19, 7-8 MAC) dropped both games of a doubleheader Wednesday afternoon concluding their series against the University of Akron. The Golden Flashes fell in game one by a final score of 4-2 and by 20-6 in game two.
Game 1: Kent State 2, Akron 4
The Zips struck for three runs in the top of the first. Kent State responded quickly as Brynn Libler drew a walk and Caleigh Shaulis singled to put two runners on, before Megan Claerhout grounded into a sacrifice to score Libler and cut the deficit to 3-1.
The Golden Flashes' best opportunity came in the fourth inning. Ashlyn Porter led off with a single and moved to second on a wild pitch and Gabby Quinn drew a walk to put two runners on. Alex Trevena then delivered an RBI single to score Porter making it a 4-2 ballgame. Akron held onto this two-run advantage for the rest of the contest.
Aaralyn Nogay was bright spot for the Blue and Gold 2-for-3, while Porter contributed two hits and a run scored.
Game 2: Kent State 6, Akron 20
What began as a back-and-forth ballgame in the early innings concluded with a large advantage for Akron. The bright spots for Kent State came primarily from the top of the lineup. Nogay went 3-for-4 with a double, three RBIs, and two runs scored. Megan Claerhout went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs, and Brynn Libler added three hits including a double and drove in a run.
The Golden Flashes led 4-3 after a three-run second inning responding to Akron's early scoring. Brooke Aberle and Alex Trevena reached, Nogay singled to center to score two, and Libler followed with an RBI single to give Kent State the advantage.
The Flashes added single runs in the fifth and sixth to reach six, with Claerhout driving in Libler in the fifth and Nogay delivering an RBI double in the sixth.

Kent State is back in action this weekend at Northern Illinois University. The three-game series starts Saturday, April 11 with a doubleheader set for 2:00 p.m. and 4:00 p.m. eastern time first pitch times. The series concludes Sunday, April 12 at 1:00 p.m. ET. Â
