AVON, Ohio – The Golden Flashes suffer an 8-0 defeat Wednesday evening in the second round of the MAC Tournament at Avon, Ohio. Kent State fell to 40-14 and will face No. 1 seed Miami (OH) in a must-win elimination game Friday at 9 a.m.

Toledo wasted little time, plating two runs in the first inning when a Jp Wagner groundout and a throwing error by first baseman Ripken Reese allowed two Rockets to score. The Golden Flashes managed baserunners but could not solve Fliss, who struck out eight and walked just two across seven innings before Ryan Hughes closed it out. Kent State's best chance came in the third when Grady Mee singled and advanced to third, but was stranded.

The Rockets put the game away with a four-run fifth inning, highlighted by RBI hits from Troy Sudbrook, Charlie Scholvin, and Wagner, before Liam Arsich delivered a two-run single in the sixth off Jordan Kolenda to make it 8-0. Easton Tumis started for Kent State and allowed six runs over five innings before Kolenda and freshman Alex Alberico combined to keep the Flashes within reach, but the offense never gave them a chance.

UP NEXT: Kent State faces No. 1 seed Miami (OH) in a must-win elimination game Friday at 9 a.m. after the RedHawks fell to NIU in 15 innings. The loser will be eliminated from the tournament.
